Towards a stronger sense of ‘us’ with clear principles

Consistency and clarity is an important topic in our transformation projects. This client story shows why this is not in conflict with a sense of humanity and togetherness.

Our client is a family business with a responsible and appreciative senior management, running many activities and measures for the employees - and yet a bad feeling is creeping in, communication between the different leadership levels is difficult and conflict-laden and negative employer ratings on the Internet are accumulating. Movendo is commissioned to design and facilitate a leadership development programme. The design is convincing because it relies on the dialogue between the management levels. It quickly becomes clear to us: this dialogue is contaminated for everyone and disappointments and misunderstandings are obstructing the way forward.

In training sessions with the management, we convey how patterns and communication influence the corporate culture.
We look at what the existing patterns are that make it difficult to work together. We find that there is a desire and also an entrepreneurial pressure to develop faster and more holistic solutions and to take decisions. Buzzwords such as "silo thinking", "Sales decides everything here" and "we need clear decision templates" can be heard. In training with the other levels, there is a sense of mistrust and disregard for their work by the management. We summarize the different perspectives and arrive at common principles that should to guide the way they work.

Change succeeds if everyone
wants the same thing
because it makes sense for everyone

We involve everyone in a decision on which they have an influence and whose perspective is important for a holistic solution.
In further training events we deepen how this principle affects daily work, how it is sustainably implemented, what consequences it has for co-operation, for the structure of meetings and working methods. We help them to reflect on past cooperation, to grow together as a team and to be clear about the role of a leader. Time and again we facilitate the dialogue between the levels. We train attentive listening, wanting to understand, changing perspective and arrive at a completely new sense of ‘us’. Change succeeds if everyone wants the same thing because it makes sense for everyone. In this case it worked.
